A Real Boxing Experience

Boxing day

You know what is boxing day???? Any wild guess???

Boxing day is a public holiday in most of the countries like UK, Australia, Canada, Ghana, Greenland, Germany, Hong Kong, New Zealand . People  celebrates it on 26th of December , just after the Christmas. In dictionary meaning Boxing Day is the first weekday after Christmas. Traditionally, 26 December was the day to open the Christmas Box to share the contents with the poor. Its a day when family members get together for a party and they enjoy with games and watching movies or games.

The reason that the December 26th was known as ‘Boxing Day’ was the fact that many centuries ago, the Lord and Lady of the manor/castle/estate gathered together at the manor house, the workers including those from the outlying fields, forests and streams, the day after Christmas Day and organized the distribution of the annual necessities, done according to the status of the worker and the size of the family.

Nowadays Boxing day is known as the “shopping day”. It is the time when shops have the sales and the lowest price selling strategies. The price decrees will be a dramatic surprise  as compared to the normal prices. This day will be  the largest revenue day in the year. In UK the revenue collected on boxing day of 2009 was 20% higher than the year 2008.

It is really a Boxing Day. Many retailers open the shop very early by 3.00AM. People used to sleep in front of the shops on 25th itself so that they can enter into the shop as soon as it opens. There will be a drastic rush to enter in the shop. Once inside the shop people rush to grab the items which they want. There also we can see the real POWER of “Boxing”.

The online version of Boxing Day is known as Cyber Boxing Day, which has the busiest online business.

It is really an amazing day regardless the BOXING experience, people hopefully get a value added service. But I don’t know the reality behind the sales.

"Chrismas Special" after the Christmas :-)

Christmas Cake  is an English tradition that started as plum porridge. They used to eat it  on Christmas Eve, to clear their stomachs after a day of fasting. Soon dried fruit, spices and honey were added to the porridge mixture, and eventually it turned into Christmas puddings.

In the 16th century butter, wheat flour and eggs were added to the recipe of the food. These ingredients helped hold the mixture together and that resulted in a boiled plum cake. Families having  ovens began making fruit cakes with marzipan, an almond sugar paste, for Easter. For Christmas, they made a similar cake using seasonal dried fruit and spices. The spices represented the exotic eastern spices. That is the most popular  ” Christmas Cakes” today.

Christmas cake is type of fruit cake served at the time of Christmas. Usually it may be light or black , spongy ,shaped round /square.
